01Before you pick it up
What are you looking for?
Maybe you're looking for more protein, more fibre, or fewer ultra-processed foods. Choose a Goal, then set how strict you want to be.
We suggest starting with Minimize UPF. Your Avoid-list is optional and starts empty.

Choose your rules here. We'll use them to check the same loaf through the rest of the demo.
02In front of the shelf
Pick it up. Scan the barcode.
The barcode identifies the product. OwnPalate then checks its ingredient and nutrition facts against the rules you chose.
Try it here with our fictional loaf. The demo uses sample facts, so you don't need a camera or a real package.

03The quick answer
See where it fits.
You'll see which rules pass, which miss, and why. A result is about your choices, not a grade for the food.
If a fact is missing, you'll see what OwnPalate cannot check. Try removing the protein value below.

The Read shows the fact used for each check, the threshold you chose, and where the information came from.

You can check the reasoning before you decide.
Minimize UPF · Standard. Fits. This sample fits your current Goal. Goal: Fits. No UPF markers in the complete, resolved ingredient list.

I was already reading every package. I tried scanner apps, but their universal grades still left the real decision with me. OwnPalate began as the tool I wanted beside me in the aisle.

The core experience is designed, and we're testing it in a founder-only feasibility build. OwnPalate isn't publicly available yet. We don't have a release date to share.

A few things you might be wondering.
We're building a packaged-food barcode scanner that checks food against your own rules. You choose a Goal, Strictness, and an optional Avoid-list. OwnPalate returns Fits, Does not fit, or Cannot verify, with the evidence behind the result.
OwnPalate checks the rules you chose instead of giving food one grade for everyone. You can see which rules pass, which miss, and which facts it couldn't check.
The first version is designed around one active Goal: Minimize UPF, Get more protein, or Get more fibre. Choose Gentle, Standard, or Strict. An optional Avoid-list lets you add supported safety-critical items and personal preferences. Uncataloged preferences match the text you enter directly; they don't automatically include ingredient families, derivatives, or precautionary wording. Strictness never relaxes a safety-critical rule.
OwnPalate is missing information it needs to check your rules. It tells you which fact is missing rather than assuming a pass. An unresolved safety-critical rule also gets a prominent Safety alert.
The app is designed to use local and cached product facts alongside Open Food Facts, with the source and date shown for each field. If a relevant fact is missing or out of date, you can choose to add or correct that part of the label. Scanning the barcode remains the normal starting point.
No. OwnPalate isn't medical advice and can't guarantee allergen or medical safety. Missing safety-critical evidence cannot produce Fits. It stays visible as uncertainty and triggers a Safety alert. Always check the current package.
The first version is designed to keep your Profile, product facts, corrections, and a limited history on your device. Temporary label photos are deleted after processing, and product-image caches can be discarded. This version doesn't have account syncing or a dedicated personal-data backend.
